Sofa sizes to check before you buy

Measure the wall and the room around it, then compare with the sofa's listed size.

  • Leave 14 to 18 inches between the front of the sofa and the coffee table [1].
  • Pick a coffee table 1/2 to 2/3 the length of the sofa. An 84-inch sofa pairs with a table of about 42 to 56 inches [1].
  • Keep at least 24 inches of walkway around the table, and 30 to 36 inches in busy rooms or open layouts [1].
